British Literature I Evaluations

Fall 1995: Section 2

1. I believe that Dr. Arn is one of the most knowledgable professors in the department. This course was one of the more difficult literature classes that I have taken. I would recommend this class for people who are serious about the subject and would like to enrich their studies.

2. I enjoyed the class. This was the first time I've read most of the material we read, and enjoyed it. As a freshman, I was not used to the workload.

3. There are too many books. Get a 1 volume anthology instead. It would be much easier. No, Sir Gawain is not too difficult for undergrads. Please do not stop teaching it. (See, I read the e-mail).

4. I felt that the class was rushed through too much material. The workload was too large for the depth that she expected us to express. Perhaps it was because there was too much material to cover in too short of time.

5. This is, beyond the littlest doubt, the best, most valuable course I have taken at this university. Dr. Arn pressed the students, forcing them to think and learn. My estimation of this institution as a whole has risen since taking this course.

6. Dr. Arn is perhaps one of the most demanding instructors in the English dept. and also one of the most helpful. She has a sincere desire to impart knowledge and to open the door to learning for any student willing to accept her challenge. At any given time, I have probably worked harder and put more effort into her class (even over supposedly higher level 'more challenging' classes) but I would have it no other way. Dr. Arn is an excellent teaching role model & has (along with Dr. Gulley) taught me more, challenged me more, and held higher expectations than any other professor I have encountered. She has prepared me well. I thank her!

7. Your personality really made the class more enjoyable. At times you were extremely funny, which helped with the often confusing material. I thought this class was very tough. Sometimes it was overwhelming, esp. at the beginning of the semester. However, I would take another class of yours because I learned a lot of interesting facts that I wouldn't have known before. I esp. liked reading Chaucer with you. I can only say that I didn't like your sometimes strict attitude towards the class. Other than that, I enjoyed the class & learned a lot.

8. I thought the requirements of reading for this course to be very heavy. Perhaps she could of better explained the materials and try to make analogies to our lives today. A lot of the material was hard to relate to.

9. Dr. Arn is a good teacher. She expects a lot from her students and really makes them think about the literature they have read. This is a good thing because it makes the students think for themselves and learn more.

10. I think there is too much material to cover in this course for us to get the most knowledge from a piece of work. We are often rushed and have to skip over certain parts of the books.

11. I feel that I learned a lot about British Literature & History through this class. Dr. Arn was very available and willing to answer my questions. I'm glad I took this class because next semester I'm studying in England and I want to go and visit the things we studied. I think overall Dr. Arn was very fair.

12. Dr. Arn was one of the most challenging professors I have had. I really felt I had to work harder than ever before, and because of that I feel as if I have learned much more than I expected.

13. I felt as though this course was a bit difficult. Although, the professor is understanding and made you feel comfortable when you needed to speak with her.

14. Professor Arn has really given me a lot of chances to improve myself in many more ways. She is very passionate about her work and in my opinion she is a very fine [teacher] and well learned in her field.
